Songs from Memory

"A lively 10-song CD of power-pop gems."

   -Chris Hansen Orf, Mesa Tribune

Songs from Memory came about when Bret Hartley, Atlanta guitarist, producer and songwriter who’s worked with the likes of Sugarland, Clay Cook, John Austin, and Billy Pilgrim--and long-lost adolescent friend and bandmate of Edwards--contacted Edwards after coming across this Web site. It wasn’t long before the two were on the phone talking music, and Edwards invited Hartley to play guitar on “Riverboat Captain,” an original song Edwards had written into Ghost Notes and expected to use as the “single” for his novel.

Hartley jumped at the chance to work with Edwards again, remembering their band back in their hometown of Moline, IL and hoping to reignite the fire that fueled their earlier collaboration. Hartley secured a studio in Atlanta, a session drummer, and recorded new guitar and drum tracks over the demo of “Riverboat Captain” Edwards had supplied him.

Edwards was so pleased with the results that he enlisted Hartley to collaborate with on a ten-song CD, utilizing Edwards’s cache of unrecorded material and Hartley’s production acumen and guitar prowess. The result, Songs from Memory, includes the single “Riverboat Captain” and nine other songs featuring Edwards’s infectious pop melodies and Hartley’s at times searing, at other times textured and elegant, guitar playing.
